The many dimensions of diversity in Oak Park will be on display when the annual Fourth of July parade steps off at 10 a.m.

The parade route is from Longfellow Park at Ridgeland Avenue and Adams Street. The parade will march north on Ridgeland to Augusta Boulevard, turning east to disperse near Whittier Elementary School at Harvey Avenue across the street from Dole Branch Library.

Among the entries scheduled to march are social and special interest groups, community groups, athletic teams, politicians, businesses and service organizations, children’s groups, animal lovers with their pets and musical groups.

The village’s annual fireworks display is scheduled to begin at dusk, about 9:15 p.m. in the football stadium of Oak Park-River Forest High School, just west of East Avenue on Lake Street. The free show is open to the public with an average attendance of about 25,000, according to sponsor Community Bank of Oak Park-River Forest. If bad weather stops the event it will be held Thursday, July 5.
