The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Elmwood Park Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.
ELMWOOD PARK
STRONG-ARM ROBBERY
A man was in his back yard in the 2400 block of 77th Court in the late afternoon May 18 when a gray car with four men inside drove down the alley and stopped. One of the passengers got out and approached the resident, asking for a cigarette. He then pushed the resident against the garage wall and demanded his wallet. The resident handed over his wallet, which contained his driver’s license, $165 in cash and two $25 gift cards. The robber got back into the car, which sped off. The resident was able to get the car’s license number. Police are investigating.
BATTERY
A young woman and a friend were walking in the 7700 block of Bloomingdale the afternoon of May 19. A man approached from the other direction. As he passed, he grabbed the woman’s breast and ran off.
THEFT FROM A MOTOR VEHICLE
The license plate from a Jeep was ripped from the front bumper early on May 14 in the 2400 block of 77th Ave.
A digital camera was taken from an unlocked car early on May 14 in the 2900 block of 77th Ct.
On the afternoon of May 14 a garage door opener was stolen from a vehicle in the 2900 block of 77th Ct.
A 10-inch monitor was taken from a van in the early morning hours of May 15 in the 2500 block of 75th Ave.
A cell phone was taken from a car early on May 14 in the 2900 block of 77th Ct.
A GPS was stolen from an unlocked car May 16 in the 1600 block of N. 74th Ct.
THEFT
A 10-year-old girl’s cell phone was stolen on May 15. The girl had put the phone on the ground and a male suspect picked it up and ran off .
DECEPTIVE PRACTICE
A man was trying to sell gift cards to customers inside a store in the 1600 block of Harlem Ave. The man said he had 25 such cards. Police were called and asked the man to leave the store and not come back.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Two small windows were broken in an apartment May 18 in the 2800 block of 73rd Ct. Entry was not gained and nothing was missing.
The mirror was knocked off a car in the overnight hours of May 20 in the 2000 block of 72nd Ct.
Overnight on May 20, someone threw a brick through the rear windshield of a car in the 7900 block of Fletcher Ave.
All a vehicle’s windows were broken overnight May 21 in the 2700 block of 75th Ct.
NOISE COMPLAINT
On May 15 a resident of the 2300 block of 72nd Ct. complained to police her neighbors were too loud. She said she was moving to Addison, where people would leave her alone.
GRAFFITI
Graffiti was painted May 15 on a garage in the 2200 block of 76th Ave.
STRAY DOG
A small white poodle was seen running through a yard on the morning of May 15 in the 1600 block of 78th Ct.
WALLET FOUND
A woman’s wallet was found and turned in to the police department May 16.
