Farmers market returns to Elmwood Park for second year

Residents of Elmwood Park and surrounding communities congregated near Central Park Sunday to buy fresh provisions.
Along with the heat, the summer months bring the village’s second annual farmers market. Sunday marked the second farmers market of the season, and they will be held twice a month at the park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
People were able to purchase a variety of fruit and vegetables grown by local farmers. Local businesses participate and offer a wide range of edibles as well.
This is the second time Sweet & Simple Bakery, 12 West Conti Parkway, has been asked to participate in the event.
Owner Sephora Popa, who also does most of the baking, said the bakery had plenty of sweets for sale.
“We had lemon bars, brownies, pumpkin bread, banana bread and ham and cheese croissants,” she said. “We also had cake balls plus coffee and tea.”
Popa said the farmers market is a good way to advertise the business. “We got to talk to a lot of people who hadn’t heard of us before,” she said.
Although she was busy baking delicious offerings, Popa and her parents were still able to do some shopping.
“We bought some vegetables,” she said. “My parents were out there shopping and selling at the time.”
The next farmers market will take place on June 24 at Central Park.
