Drag racer crashes into Burger Boss
Burger Boss, 7512 W. North Ave., lost its door and window after a drag racer lost control and crashed into the Elmwood Park restaurant on June 16.

An Elmwood Park business lost part of its storefront on North Avenue Saturday morning when a driver who lost control of his vehicle during an impromptu drag race.
No one was injured in the crash, but the Burger Boss Restaurant, 7512 W. North Ave., sustained damage to its door and front display window.
Abraham Galvez, 28, of 1650 First Ave., Melrose Park, was driving his Honda Civic westbound on North Avenue at 7:18 a.m. June 16.
Galvez was in the lane closest to the street on the north side when he allegedly egged on a driver in the lane to the south to race, according to Elmwood Park Police Chief Frank Fagiano.
“He accelerated and lost control of his vehicle,” Fagiano said. “The driver weaved into the lane, striking the other car the veering into the building.”
Mike Boufe, owner of Burger Boss, said despite the accident they were able to give their customers the variety of burgers they’ve come to enjoy that day. They usually open at 11 a.m. on Saturdays so the restaurant was empty when the accident occurred.
“We were open on Saturday,” he said. “We had a really great board up service. We opened a little bit late, but we were open for service.”
“They only took out the little vestibule,” he said. “They destroyed the door and one glass panel.”
“I had the pleasure of sweeping up 100 pounds of glass off the ground,” he said.
Galvez was arrested and charged with improper lane usage, driving on a suspended license and an outstanding warrant.
His court date is July 27.
