An Elmwood Park man was recently arrested on a warrant after allegedly failing to show up to continue his military service.
Tavio G. Rossi, 23, of 2404 N. 75th Court was arrested at 9:02 p.m. Aug. 6 on the 7500 block of Marwood Avenue. He was in a car reportedly pulled over by police because he and a friend were allegedly not wearing their seat belts.
When police ran a check on both men, they found a military desertion warrant out on Rossi from the U.S. Army, police said.
Elmwood Park Police Chief Frank Fagiano said Rossi was held at the police station until police were told what to do with him. He said the county would not take him.
After contacting military authorities, the police received a bus ticket for Rossi to return him to Fort Knox Army Base in Fort Knox, Ky. Fagiano said Rossi was given the ticket Aug. 7 and released on his own recognizance.
A military police officer at Fort Knox Army Base said, typically, a soldier who has not shown up for duty and picked up by police on a desertion warrant will be issued a bus ticket, or the soldier will be picked up by Army personnel and brought back, if the person is a repeat offender.
