Chicago juveniles charged in Elmwood Park burglaries

ELMWOOD PARK — Watchful neighbors led to the arrest of two Chicago juveniles and the recovery of stolen merchandise.
The two 17-year-old boys were charged with residential burglary in connection with burglaries reported on the 1600 block of 78th Avenue and the 7800 block of Bloomingdale Avenue around 1:06 p.m. Sept. 4.
Elmwood Park Police Det. Mark Astrella said day police received two calls about suspicious people in the neighborhood.
“The call came in regarding guys going in and out of backyards,” he said.
Astrella said the two were going door-to-door in the neighborhood asking people if they were interested in a lawn service. He alleges the pair did so to find out if someone was home so they could possibly burglarize it.
The two juveniles allegedly gained entry to two homes, with one being arrested in the area and the other at his Chicago home with proceeds from one of the burglaries. Both are wearing home monitoring devices until their next court date.
Elmwood Park Police Chief Frank Fagiano said it was good police work.
“They worked tirelessly and did a very good job,” he said.
Elmwood Park Police Det. Mike Winiarczyk and Sgt. Glen Mieszala were also involved in the investigation that led to the arrests.
