Electrical malfunction behind Nov. 5 house fire

ELMWOOD PARK — An electrical malfunction is believed to have caused a house fire Monday on the north side of Elmwood Park.
Elmwood Park Deputy Fire Chief Michael Ventura said the fire started on the second floor of the home at 2811 76th Court. The fire department received the fire call at 5:26 p.m. Ventura said the residents were in the home and smelled smoke in the front bedroom.
“They went to see and saw flames in the ceiling of the second floor bedroom and they quickly called 911,” he said.
“Our investigation of the fire is that the cause was electrical in nature,” he said. “Something malfunctioned electrically.”
He said the fire was extinguished at 7:10 p.m.
“There was significant damage to the house,” he said. “They will have to remodel the whole second floor and some of the first floor. Nobody got hurt and that’s the good thing.”
