ELMWOOD PARK — With the help of a local organization, many people found something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving.
On Nov. 17, members of the Elmwood Park Neighborhood Civic Organization gave away 45 turkeys to residents in need. The group gave out turkeys to people at Elmbrook Senior Residence, 7940 Grand Ave., and then at people’s homes.
“We went there (Elmbrook) and went to 30 homes throughout Elmwood Park,” organization member Joe Ponzio said.
Super Low Foods helped EPNCO with the turkeys.
“They were very generous to us,” he said. “They helped us tremendously.”
People who wanted to take advantage of the help either contacted EPNCO directly, or someone contacted the organization on behalf of someone else.
Ponzio said many people have lost their jobs or are just down on their luck and need a little help. This is the fourth year the organization has given away turkeys around the Thanksgiving holiday.
“It’s another tough year,” Ponzio said. “If we can help them forget that for a few hours on Thanksgiving, that’s what it’s all about.”
