Nascar-themed car wash opening in Elmwood Park

A business with a name tied to high-speed auto racing is scheduled to open this month in Elmwood Park, hoping to attract lots of cars to looking for a speedy wash.

The owners of NASCAR Car Wash, located at 7525 W. Grand Ave., are hoping their business will capitalize on the high traffic along Grand Avenue. Dean Tomich, who runs the day-to-day operations of NASCAR Car Wash, headquartered in Joliet, thinks they made the right choice.

He said after looking at several communities, Elmwood Park seemed like a good location to expand the business.

“We liked the density,” he said. “The traffic was right for our needs.”

The company has other NASCAR Car Washes in Illinois and Michigan and is planning to expand into other states. The NDP Group holds the license to build the NASCAR Car Wash brand.

He said the village administration was not a stumbling block in terms of getting started on the car wash.

“The village was very helpful and that mattered to us,” he said. “You go into some cities and it’s a battle.”

The company spent about $3 million to acquire the building and land, which included Connie’s Beef, 7501 W. Grand Ave. He said they hope to have a national retail business, similar to what was there before, set up at that location.

The exterior of the car wash is almost complete, with most of the work being done on the inside.

Once completed, the car wash will be primarily self-service, with the price of a car wash varying from $5 to $15, depending on what the customer wants. Monthly passes for unlimited washes are also an option.

Along with a car wash, there will also be areas where customers can pay to use vacuums to clean the interior of their vehicle.

Tomich said it will be easier for drivers to access their enclosed car washing area than similar automated car wash businesses.

“We have a very good product,” he said. “I think it’s better than anything out there.”

He plans to employee at least 15 people to work at Elmwood Park location, and there will be at least two employees working there at all times. Tomich said each of their car wash businesses has a commitment to getting involved in the community where they reside through different fundraising programs and plan to do the same in Elmwood Park.

Tomich has given Jan. 26 as a tentative opening date for the business, and there will be discounted car washes for the first few days afterwards. Once opened, the car wash’s hours will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
