Jorge Zavala is running for the Democratic nomination for Illinois’ 4th congressional district. Zavala is an openly gay Latino man from Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood. Read more from Chicago Spectrum:

Jorge Zavala, an openly gay Latino man who grew up in Logan Square, is running for the Democratic nomination for Illinois’ 4th congressional district. Zavala seeks to unseat Rep. Luis Gutiérrez, a Lincoln Park native who has served as a Democrat in Congress since 1993.

Zavala, 26, is a graduate of Lane Tech and DePaul University. His father, Jorge Sr., has previously been involved in Cook County politics. After Zavala received his degree from DePaul, he went on to work on human rights issues in Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Malaysia. He has worked or volunteered for the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago.
