Savor summer on great restaurant patios

Few things smack of summer more than enjoying a thoughtfully prepared meal outdoors. Simple picnics and festive backyard barbecues are summer time staples, but restaurants everywhere are making the most of our ideal summer weather by getting into the business of al fresco dining.

Nestling tables on downtown sidewalks, creating elaborate patio alcoves, building welcoming decks and perching seats on rooftops — eateries are working hard to entice guests. They’re serving everything from Latin influenced fare to traditional southern BBQ to elegant egg-filled ravioli on decks out in the soft, summer air.

Check out my patio-round-up for the western suburbs. It’s a list of 10 lovely and diverse spots to enjoy a meal under the sun or stars this summer. Bon Appetit!
