Grocer, vitamin store opening in former North Avenue Blockbuster

After being empty closed for over nine months a new health food store will soon fill the space vacated by Blockbuster Video.

Fruitful Yield Health Foods, a shop specializing in vitamins, supplements, organic and non-genetically modified foods, is scheduled to open Aug. 15.

The store, located at 7230 W. North Ave. #100, would be Fruitful Yield’s 13th in the state.

Dave Reczek, president of the retail store chain, said they chose Elmwood Park because of the village’s location.

“It’s a strategic place and we’re trying to cover the western suburbs,” he said.

The 6,700 square-foot store will employ 20 people and be set up like a grocery store, but organic foods will be the niche. Reczek said Fruitful Yields combines the food selection of Trader Joe’s with the supplement selection of the Vitamin Shop, but in a smaller footprint.

They store will have a freezer and refrigerated areas that will carry items like gluten free pizzas, non-genetically modified eggs and yogurt. Vitamins and supplements like protein powder will also be available as well.

Eco-friendly cleaning supplies, bug spray, toothpaste and personal care products will be available as well. He said the store offers a large variety of eco-friendly products, food and supplements, which he believes the people in the area looking for.

Construction is still underway at the location, and if they miss their Aug. 15 opening date, the store should be open by Aug. 18, he said. Store hours will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
