1. Red, White and Blue John Kurtz 5K Run and Walk, 8 a.m. Aug. 2
The run/walk begins at Pines Park and travels through the White pines Subdivision. The event honors veterans and raises awareness for the Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies Program. The run finishes with T-shirts, refreshments, a concert, lunch and prizes. Pines Park, 4N500 Church Road, Bensenville.
2. Guided Bicycle Tour, 9:30 a.m. Friday
Explore the historic Oak Park neighborhoods on a guided bicycle tour of 22 structures designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Sites include Wright’s Home and Studio, Unity Temple, Frank Thomas House, Heurtley House, Cheney House, Furbeck House and more. Greenline Wheels, 105 S. Marion St., Oak Park. $30-$35.
3. Summer Picnic, 11 a.m. Saturday
Join the Eisenhower Public Library in closing out the Kids World Summer Reading program with games, snacks and the annual water balloon fight. Registration is required. Norridge Park District, 4631 N. Overhill Ave., Norridge.
4. Explore Your Preserves: Bemis Woods, 10 a.m. Saturday
Follow a nature expert as you navigate the phenomenal trails of the Bemis Woods. Call to register and find out where to meet. Hal Tyrell Trailside Museum, 738 Thatcher Ave., River Forest. Free.
5. Chicago Grandstand Big Band, 5:30 p.m. Sunday

6. Summer Sparkler Specials: Wheel Throwing, 10 a.m. Saturday
Craft ceramic arts using a wheel. These one day try-it-out programs are meant to inspire new crafts and innovation among students. Participants are provided with snacks and beverages. 7. Dance Party with DJ Warren Posternack, 4 p.m. Friday

8. Ovation Academy Presents ‘Urinetown,’ 7:30 p.m. Friday
