Storms soak Elmwood Park, River Grove, but damage avoided

Water from heavy rains Thursday night into early Friday morning left Elmwood Park and River Grove mostly unscathed.

Elmwood Park Village Manager Paul Volpe said heavy rains only made driving in certain parts of town a little difficult.

“We did pretty good last night,” he said. “It was mostly isolated water on the streets, but we didn’t have any major injuries.”

In River Grove, there were no police calls for people needing any assistance from the village’s public works department due to flooding.

Barry Lederer, fleet superintendent for River Grove Public Works Department, said everything was quiet although other communities in Cook County received major flooding.

“It was pretty quiet,” he said. “Nothing earth-shattering — just a few tree branches down. We’re pretty lucky.”
