The Leyden Township Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its first ever Trek to the Rec 5K.

The event will be held at 8 a.m. on Sept. 6. The cost is $20 per runner and proceeds will go to benefit the Leyden Needy Fund. They will promote health and wellness in the community, along with raising funds to help assist less fortunate families in the township. The route for this 5K is designed to showcase some of the parks and facilities that Leyden Township has to offer.

Neighbors, friends, businesses, organizations, and runners are invited to come out and enjoy a day of fitness at the parks.

The run starts from Westdale Park, 3045 Sandra Ave., Melrose Park, and continues through the township, ending at the Bradley A. Stephens, Community Center, 2620 N. Mannheim Road, Franklin Park. At the end of the race will be a Finish-Line Celebration, high-lighting the sponsors and presenting medals to the winners.

To volunteer to help on the day of the race, contact the 5K volunteer coordinator at the Community Center office at 847-451-5144, or email ccdesk@leydentownship.com before Aug. 27.

To sponsor this event, contact the Community Center office by phone or email mbukovatz@leydentownship.com and a variety of sponsorship opportunities and packages will be provided to fit one’s needs.
