Sheriff’s deputy acquitted of DUI in deadly Franklin Park crash

A Cook County Sheriff’s deputy was acquitted of charges he drove intoxicated in a 2012 crash that killed a pedestrian in west suburban Franklin Park.

Jamie T. O’Malley, 39, was facing two counts of aggravated DUI and one count of reckless homicide in connection with the July 22, 2012 crash that killed Marcial Marias-Quevedo, according to Pioneer Press and court records.

Judge Paula Daleo found O’Malley not guilty of all charges last Wednesday following a bench trial at the Maywood courthouse, court records show.

O’Malley, of Franklin Park, was off-duty and driving a personal vehicle — a 2011 Dodge 1500 pickup — on Mannheim Road south of Belmont when the truck struck the 41-year-old pedestrian, Franklin Park police said at the time.

Marias-Quevedo, of the 3000 block of Bright Street in Franklin Park, was later pronounced at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

O’Malley is currently suspended without pay, and the sheriff’s office is moving to terminate him, Cook County Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said.
