The Starbucks on North Avenue near Harlem is set to close for a week in mid-September, a store employee says.
Located at 7112A W. North Ave. in Galewood, the store will be closing for remodeling on Sept. 7 and will reopen to the public on Sept. 13, the employee, who was not authorized to speak to the media, said.
The renovation will focus on updates to the interior furnishings and the drive-through. Some of the renovations will include a new countertop where customers will be able to sit.
A new cooler for beverages will be added. There will also be a two-way video system installed for ordering in the drive-through, and increased space between the order post and pick-up window to help improve the speed with which customers to receive their orders.
Meanwhile, those who are fond of the Galewood location will have to go elsewhere.
Johnathan Strauss, 38, of Oak Park, who works in real estate, is on the move a lot and says he’ll miss having a drink and using the store’s Wi-Fi to get some work done.
“For me, this is a preferable location, but because of the volume of Starbucks around, it will not affect me,” he said.
He said while the store is closed, he will probably go to a Starbucks in Oak Park, but prefers the Galewood location.
“It makes it slightly inconvenient,” he said.
Stacey Dioudes, 33, of Elmwood Park, isn’t happy about the store closing for a few days.
“That stinks,” she said. “My mother-in-law is coming from Greece to visit and we come here a lot. That’s a long time — holy cow.”
She said she’ll probably go to a Starbucks in Oak Park, too, but enjoys walking to the Galewood location, sitting outside and enjoying her drink.
“The people are so nice,” she said. “I’ve met them all. I like the outside and they’re pet friendly. The staff is the best.”
