“Walk with Therese” held its 8th Annual 5K Walk to Stop Domestic Violence on Aug. 16 at Keystone Park in Oak Park.
The walk honors Therese Acheson Pender, a River Forest resident who was murdered by her estranged husband in 2005, and other victims of domestic violence. The nonprofit organization, “Walk with Therese,” was founded by Samantha Satterthwaite, the niece of Therese.
The morning included speeches by representatives from domestic violence agencies, raffled items and refreshments. Dogs were welcome to enjoy the 5K as well.
At the end of the walk, attendees enjoyed a butterfly release, symbolizing freedom and hope, as well as the logo of the nonprofit.
