Oak Park — To honor the memory of Dr. Ralph F. Del Monico, a musical concert will be held Nov. 9.
Del Monico was a practicing dentist in Elmwood Park for more than 43 years and a longtime member of the Elmwood Park/Mont Clare Chamber of Commerce. The Nov. 9 concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Fenwick High School auditorium, 505 Washington Blvd. in Oak Park.
The concert will feature John Bruce Yeh, clarinetist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Clarinet Ensemble and vocalist Diva Montell.
“Dr. D” was an accomplished musician, playing his clarinet in many local bands and ensembles. Before he received his doctorate of dental surgery, he received his bachelor of arts degree in music education from Northwestern University. In addition to teaching math and science to seventh- and eighth-graders in the Chicago Public School System, he also gave clarinet lessons to students of all ages.
Del Monico believed in giving back to the community and in education. In keeping with those values, his family has established the Dr. Ralph E. Del Monico Music Education Scholarship through the Columbian Club Charitable Foundation. A monetary award will be presented each year to a deserving college student majoring in music education. Proceeds from this event will benefit the scholarship fund.
Tickets are $30 per person, by Nov. 2. Make checks payable to Dr. Ralph Del Monico Music Scholarship, 7310 W. North Ave., Suite 3-A, Elmwood Park, IL 60707. Call (708)456-2800; columbianclub.org.
