Whether you’re going to a backyard barbecue or on a long-distance trip, looking your best is essential — especially during the summer! New nail polish hues, hairstyles, and clothes are a must.

Manicurist Cindy Bucaro of CoCo Beauty Lounge, 7749 W. Grand Ave. in Elmwood Park, discussed the hottest nail trends this summer season. During the winter and spring months, darker colors were more prevalent. Now that it’s summer, brighter colors are more popular.

“This summer, neon is huge,” said Bucaro. “The brighter the better!”

Other popular summer shades include beachy tones such as creamy pinks, blues, or turquoise.

“During the summer months, you want to think of the beach,” Bucaro said. “Coral is definitely the most popular hue this season.”

Chartreuse nails are also very popular. The yellowish green looks good with every skin tone. Nail art is still trendy. This includes animal print, rhinestones and ombre nails.

“Girls are using a sponge to give the illusion of fading polish to their nails,” said Bucaro. Clients should also opt for natural, square nail lengths.

Hair

As for hair, CoCo Beauty Lounge’s owner, Linzi “CoCo” Crooms knows a thing or two about new trends. Being a stylist, she is always researching the latest colors and styles.

“Long hair is very popular for the summertime,” said Crooms. “Especially extensions.”

However, Crooms feels that girls shouldn’t commit to a hairstyle just because it’s popular. “Pick a length that fits your personality and lifestyle,” she said.

As for hairstyles, the beachy, messy look is popular this summer.

“A natural, soft wave will work when going out this season,” she said. “It shouldn’t look too polished or perfect.”

According to Crooms, ombre hair will be very prevalent this summer season. (Ombre is a darker root that fades into a blonde tip.)

“Girls are doing dark red to light red, or dark brown to light brown,” Crooms said. “Ombre doesn’t have to be just dark roots to a blonde tip.” Other summer color suggestions include colored extensions.

Fashion

Now that your hair and nails are ready for summer, what will you be wearing?

Leave that to Sanem D’Angelo who owns Sanem’s, 134 N. Oak Park Ave in Oak Park, who knows all the fashion tips for summer.

“I love stripes!” D’Angelo said. “A lot of women are afraid to wear to them, but if you find the right kind it can be very flattering on a woman.”

Other popular summertime prints include floral, Aztec and fringe. Popular summertime colors include coral, watermelon, peachy pink and sky blue.

“This summer, it is all about the color,” said D’Angelo. “A lot of women are wearing skinny jeans that are a solid, bright color.”

As for tops, D’Angelo said that the cut-out off the shoulder look will be popular for summer.

“It is fun and flirty with a touch of elegance,” she said.

Maxi dresses are also the perfect outfit for summertime parties and fests. “Maxi dresses are both comfortable and trendy,” D’Angelo said.

Accessories

Accessorizing is a must for every outfit, so make sure you make them bold!

“Statement necklaces are still popular,” D’Angelo said. “Also big, floppy hats will be in demand! They are both practical for the sun and trendy.”

To top off your look, D’Angelo suggests any strappy gladiator sandal or wedge platform.

No matter what you wear this summer, wear it with confidence!

“It doesn’t matter what my client is wearing,” said D’Angelo. “What’s important is how they feel while they’re wearing it!”
