A man was arrested Friday by police and accused of being an accomplice in a River Grove carjacking.
Gary Kaminski, 54, of 3336 N. Pioneer Ave., Chicago, was arrested at 12:48 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, while walking down Higgins Road at Merrimac Avenue. He was charged with one count of vehicular hijacking.
Police said that Kaminski was involved in a Jan. 5 carjacking at a Citgo gas station on the 8300 block of Belmont Avenue, which led to the Jan. 6 arrest of Daniel Nielsen, 54, of 6019 W. Higgins Ave., Chicago. According to a police report, Nielsen allegedly grabbed the victim, hitting him twice with a blackjack (a short club) and told Kaminski to take the victim’s 2001 Mitsubishi Laser, and he would meet up with Kaminski later at another location.
River Grove police Sgt. Jack Glowinski said police received an anonymous tip about Kaminski’s whereabouts and police were able to locate and arrest him walking westbound on Higgins Road. Glowinski said that Kaminski did not try to flee or struggle with police.
His court date is Jan. 18.
