A weekend autopsy was unable to determine the cause of death of two men found in their Elmwood Park home Friday.
Police would not release any more information about the investigation, pending a toxicology report that could take 12 weeks to complete.
Robert Salked, 52, and his son, Branden Salked, 19, were found dead Friday afternoon in their home at 2451 N. 73rd Court.
Elmwood Park Police Chief Frank Fagiano said since a cause of death was not determined, police will have to wait on a toxicology report, which could take up to 12 weeks.
Fagiano said officers discovered what appeared to be an illegal substance in the home; however, he would not disclose the kind of illegal substance. He said it is being sent to the state’s crime lab for testing.
“Due to the sensitivity of situation, two people died, we are not revealing what we found,” Fagiano said.
Police consider the incident a death investigation, not a homicide. They said there is no evidence of foul play. There was no sign of forced entry to the single-family home, and the fire department found carbon monoxide levels to be normal.
Fagiano said the bodies were deceased about five hours before being discovered by a relative at 12:14 p.m. Jan. 20.
Fagiano said relatives of the deceased have been notified and are cooperating with authorities. The two men along with five other family members lived at the residence, which they were renting.
