A tree fell on a house on the 8200 block of New England in Niles during a heavy rain storm May 3.
Public Works Director Scott Jochim said department employees were out May 4 working on the house. He wasn’t yet sure of the extent of the damage to the house.
Niles received about 2.5 inches of rain on the north side of town and 1.5 inches of rain on the south side.
Jochim said heavy rain rushed down twice May 3, once in the late-afternoon and once in the evening. Hail also was seen.
“There was a lot of flooding on the streets,” Jochim said of side streets across the village.
The afternoon rain lasted about 5 minutes, but the evening rain continued for more than an hour, Jochim explained.
“It came down in buckets,” Jochim said.
