A drug bust in Elmwood Park last month resulted in two arrests, but it wasn’t the local police department leading the charge.
Elmwood Park Police Chief Frank Fagiano said he was notified by U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency agents about their presence in the village and their plans. The drug bust took place at around 1 p.m. May 11 in the area of 73rd Avenue and Altgeld Street.
Fagiano said agents arrested two people.
“We had nothing to do with it,” he said.
DEA and U.S. Department of Justice spokesmen were not able to comment on the arrests. No more details were available.
Fagiano said Elmwood Park offered space in department and other resources to the DEA agents to carry out their operation.
“We acted only as an assist,” he said. “They took two people into custody and used our facilities. We opened our doors to them to use during their investigation.”
