Health care pro: ‘A victory for all Americans’

West suburban health-care professionals praised Thursday’s Supreme Court decision to uphold the Affordable Care Law.
Margaret Harp, a nurse and currently manager for Center for Health Professionals in Triton College’s Continuing Education Program, said the ruling is “a victory for all Americans.”
“It makes me feel very proud as Americans that we are going to be looking at everyone’s health-care issues and looking at those who need health care,” she said. “We’re going to look at preventive care and we are not going to discriminate against people with preexisting issues.”
She said the ruling that anyone 26 years old or younger can still be covered under their parents health insurance is a plus as well.
“It helps in terms of education because a lot of students need to get a full-time job to get insurance and it keeps them from getting an education,” she said.
She said requiring people who can afford it to purchase health insurance is a plus as well because it saves money for those who have it overall. She said those who can pay, but go into the emergency room for treatment drives up the costs for those who have health insurance.
