Little storm damage in Elmwood Park

ELMWOOD PARK — Storms that rolled through the western suburbs Sunday left many villages without electrical power.

Power lines came down as a result of the July 1 storm in surrounding villages like Melrose Park, but in Elmwood Park there was only debris from fallen trees that the village had to deal with.

Elmwood Park Police Chief Frank Fagiano said no one was hurt as a result of the storm. He said the village’s public works department employees stepped in quickly after the storm passed to clean debris from streets and other areas.

“They did a good job,” Fagiano said. “If anybody’s car that was damaged due to the storm we’ll be more than happy to take an incident report.”

In River Grove there were similar problems with a few downed trees on homes.

Jerry Casamassimo, foreman for River Grove Public Works, said the storm was pretty bad. “We got called in yesterday right after those winds came in,” he said.

“There was a lot of stuff down and it was hot,” he said. “One tree did some roof damage to two homes and one or two branches might have fell on a car.”

He said most of the storm’s winds knocked down tree limbs, but electrical power was maintained in the village. “One streetlight is out at Oak and Grand Avenue,” she said.

“We were out yesterday to get the big stuff (tree branches) out of the way,” he said. “Today (Monday) we’re just cleaning up the aftermath.”
