ELMWOOD PARK — Elmwood Park police are investigating the assault and battery of a 14-year-old girl Friday night.

Around 8:20 p.m. Friday, the girl was approached by a man in 2000 block of 75th Court. The man grabbed the girl and then fled the area.

The girl did not sustain any injuries as a result of the incident and described the man who grabbed her as in his 20s and had a faux hawk (Fohawk) hairstyle.

Elmwood Park Police Chief Frank Fagiano said as soon as his department was aware of the incident residents were notified via the village’s Blackboard Connect, which notifies residents via telephone about emergency situations impacting the village. Fagiano said since the incident took place he has made sure there has been more of a police presence in the area.

He also said the recent incident is similar to others that took place in the village last month.

At 3:30 p.m. June 13, a man on the 7700 block of Palmer Avenue fondled a girl, then exposed himself and later tried to lure another girl into his car.

In the incident, two 16-year-old girls were walking down the street when they were approached by a man who, from behind, who touched one of the girl’s breasts and then exposed himself.

The girls told police he might have been wearing latex gloves.

A short time later, the man approached an 11-year-old girl and tried to lure her into his vehicle. The girl ran home and told her parents.

Fagiano said investigators are working to apprehend the individual or individuals involved, especially the offender in the most recent incident.

“We’re exhausting all leads to find out who did this to this young woman,” he said. “We’re continuing our saturation in that particular area.”

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Elmwood Park Police Department at (708) 453-2137.
