RIVER GROVE — On July 21, the River Grove Picnic held its annual duck race.
Barry Lederer, a River Grove public works employee, won the first-place prize of $500.
Second place and $250 went to Jonathan Zivojnovic, and the third-place winner of $100 was Jeff Weiner.
The winning numbers were 132, 247, and 728.
Zivojnovic bought his duck race ticket at the Elmwood Park Fireworks display.
“I buy tickets all the time and you never win,” he said. “It’s a fun thing when you win for change. I want to thank the Village of River Grove for always doing a great job and I’m looking forward to supporting them in the future.”
Zivojnovic plans on using the money to buy his son school supplies.
“This is a fun event every year,” said administrative assistant Jeannie Walsh. “It is the only time you will see 50 people congregated looking at the river. It’s a great way to help our Beautification Committee.”
According to Walsh, the Beautification Committee is using the money from the duck race and other fundraisers to purchase something special for their 10-year anniversary. The Beautification Committee also uses funds to plant flowers on the bridge and around River Grove.
