ELMWOOD PARK — After 35 years as a firefighter, Elmwood Park Fire Chief Mike Marino is moving on.
Elmwood Park village trustees Monday announced they received Marino’s letter of resignation, which goes into effect Nov. 9. Elmwood Park Mayor Peter Silvestri joked Monday he was reluctant to accept Marino’s resignation, but he appreciated the years of service Marino gave to the village.
“You’ve done a great job and we will give you your proper accolades when your retirement is closer,” he said.
Marino, 58, started with the Elmwood Park Fire Department in 1977. He worked his way up the ranks to become chief in 2003. He said he plans to take it easy once he retires, possibly going fishing with his son or taking his wife on a cruise.
“I had a very wonderful career here,” he said. “I hit every rank. If I could do it again, I would.”
