ELMWOOD PARK — Although there was a bit of chill in the air Sunday, it didn’t matter to the youth at Central Park, because it was their day.
In conjunction with Elmwood Park’s Farmers Market Sept. 23 at 75th and Fullerton avenues, the Elmwood Park Arts and Special Events Committee had a Kids Day at the park. There were plenty of activities geared toward children.
Lauren LaPuma, who helped the committee with the event, said the children had a good time.
“They loved it,” she said. “They had a great time.”
There was a face painter, balloons and plenty of sweet treats.
“We gave away cotton candy and silly bands, which are little necklaces and bracelets that form and make different shapes,” LaPuma said.
There were as many as 35 children at one time at the event, playing games and winning prizes.
“They loved the parachute,” she said. “They would run underneath it and sit underneath it like a tent.”
Committee Secretary Gina Pesko said the event included cheer-leading performances by the Elmwood Elite Cheerleaders.
This was the second Kids Day the committee has organized this year, the first taking place in June.
