RIVER GROVE— About 15 people came out for a blood drive at the River Grove Public Library over the weekend.
In conjunction with LifeSource Blood Center, the library opened its doors to people who wanted to donate blood Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Library Director Cathy Alberts said turnout was decent.
“We had 15 people donate,” she said. “There were a variety of people coming from different communities, like Chicago and Elmhurst.”
Head of Circulation Stephanie Mantz, along with another co-worker, planned the event. “We were looking at things to do that would be something to help the community, especially since Hurricane Sandy,” she said.
Mantz said the library will run another drive as part of an event.
“We’re probably going to do it as part of a kickoff with summer reading,” she said. “People can take care of it while they are here.”
