Model Railroad Club Open House: 12:01-5 p.m. May 7 at its clubroom in the lower level of the Dole Learning Center, 255 Augusta, Oak Park to see HO model railroad club action. The club is completing the first two levels of its new multi-level model railroad. Trains will be operating during the open house, including Thomas. Operate engines in one of the classification yards or on the kids' and friends' layout. OPSME models a railroad running from Chicago west to Iowa. When completed it will have three levels of operation. The first level is a staging area with several yards; the second level represents Illinois, including an Oak Park scene; and the top level represents the track through Iowa. The club uses Digital Command Control and is also incorporating several updated modeling techniques -- computer dispatching control, helices, lightweight materials, lighting effects and more. The Red Hat Society Royal Wedding Banquet: 5 p.m. April 29 at the Allegra Banquets, 4200 River Road, Schiller Park. Several local chapters of The Red Hat Society will be celebrating the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Lady Katherine with a banquet on this side of the pond. Heartland Blood Centers: Need O-negative and B-negative blood. To be a blood donor, individuals must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with written parental permission); weigh at least 110 pounds; be symptom free of cold, flu and allergies; and be in general good health. Heartland is continually looking for community organizations, companies, schools and churches to sponsor blood drives. Sometimes, it's just an individual who may have a family or friend receiving blood products that steps forward to hold a blood drive to help replenish the blood supply. This is a two-day program for widows and widowers who want to resolve the grief they feel inside and begin to live again after the death of their spouse.
