It was a fashion- and fun-filled afternoon at The Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace on April 26 when the Fenwick High School Mothers’ Club hosted its annual spring luncheon and runway show.
Sweeten Your Style, the theme of the event, “put a smile on everyone’s face,” said Jeanne Gallo, fashion show co-chairwoman. Candy-filled centerpieces complemented every table and guests treated themselves to confections and couture at the boutique-shopping bazaar.
Fenwick seniors and their parents strutted down the runway in evening wear and summer styles from J. McLaughlin in Hinsdale and Lucky Brand Store, Lord and Taylor, White House Black Market and J. Crew in Oak Brook.
First-time models Claire Carlson of Oak Park and Tori Cooke of La Grange said beforehand that they were most nervous about tripping.
“But I’m not going to do anything like this again so I might as well give it a shot,” said Cooke.
Once they took to the stage, those jitters had disappeared. The students were runway naturals.
Carlson’s poise in an elegant coral-colored gown prompted one onlooker to whisper to a friend: “She could be a professional model!”
This year marked the first time the event featured only amateur runway walkers.
“Who needs professional models? These kids are so good,” said Mothers’ Club President Mary Mavrogenes.
Bottom line: Kathy Hussey, a club member for 12 years, said an increasing number of students rely on scholarships to fund their education. Between donations and a percentage of boutique sales, the fashion show raised over $25,000 for Fenwick High School families who need tuition assistance.
