Samantha Spitzock, of Elmwood Park, graduated with honors May 5 from Dominican University in River Forest. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a minor in computer science. Spitzock also worked as head cashier at Menards in Melrose Park all four years of college. She graduated from Elmwood Park High School in the top 5 percent of her class and she worked at Menards all four years of High School also. Spitzock has five younger siblings and sets a great role model for them as well. She is the daughter of Pete and Gina Hunter, of Elmwood Park.

Jillian Coleman will receive a bachelor of arts degree in exercise science and fitness from Western Illinois University at the May 2012 Commencement exercises. Coleman completed her bachelor’s degree in three years and earned dean’s list honors several times.

She is a 2009 graduate of Trinity High School in River Forest and the daughter of Jim and Jane Coleman, of Elmwood Park.

Kristina Kravchenko, a student at Triton College, River Grove, was one of 81 students honored at the 14th annual Phi Theta Kappa banquet on April 18.

Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon delivered the keynote address at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel in Springfield. PTK is the international honor society for students attending two-year colleges.

The 81 students comprise this year’s Illinois All-Academic Team and represent 42 Illinois community colleges. Illinois community college presidents nominate students to be honored at the annual banquet based on outstanding academic achievement, campus leadership and responsible community involvement.

Adam S. Clare, a senior, Nideen Mustafa, a sophomore and Elizabeth Ornelas, also a sophomore, all of Elmwood Park, were among the more than 1,530 undergraduate students enrolled at Western Illinois University who were named to the 2011 Fall Dean’s List. To receive this award, an undergraduate student must earn at least a 3.6 grade-point average on a scale of 4.0 equals an A in a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded courses.

Michelle Knight, of Elmwood Park, is the recipient of a Northern Illinois University Dean’s Award.

The award is given to graduating students who demonstrate significant achievement and leadership in the areas of scholarship, campus and community activities and professional service. Criteria for the award include attainment of a 3.0 minimum grade-point average and nomination by faculty based on service to the nominee’s academic department or college.

Knight is enrolled in NIU’s College of Education.

Alessandro Mazza, Dariusz Brozek and Carisis Martinez, all of River Grove, were among those students honored on the Lewis University Deans’ List for fall semester 2011. To be eligible for this honor, students must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of credit with a grade-point average of 3.25 out of a possible 4.0.
