ELMWOOD PARK — A thirsty resident led to the arrest of a man allegedly involved in taking property from several parked cars.

Angel Colon, 21, last known address 1445 S. Clinton Ave., Berwyn, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. Oct. 29 on the 7900 block of Birchdale Avenue. He was charged with four felony counts of burglary and four counts of criminal trespass to a vehicle.

Elmwood Park Police Chief Frank Fagiano said his department received a call from a resident, who had gone for something to drink in the kitchen. The resident noticed two men wearing black hooded sweatshirts walking down the street. Fagiano said one of the men pulled on the resident’s car door handle as the pair walked by.

An officer was dispatched, and while patrolling the area of 78th Court and Schubert Avenue, police said he observed Colon allegedly inside a vehicle, laying across the front seat. A backpack, allegedly belonging to Colon, was found inside the vehicle with stolen merchandise in it.

Fagiano said police believe Colon was allegedly involved in seven other car thefts that morning. “He had GPS units, power cords, anything they could get their hands on they took,” he said.

He said there was no forced entry to the vehicles, saying Colon and his juvenile accomplice would allegedly walk down the street and check car doors to see if they were locked.

Colon’s court date is Nov. 7. Charges are pending against the juvenile.
