State Rep. Angelo “Skip” Saviano, R-77th, will remain in the race for re-election after the Illinois State Board of Elections ruled in his favor in a signature challenge this week.

Franklin Park resident Ken Zurek filed the signature challenge. In it, he accused village Utilities Superintendent Joe Lauro and Trustee Randy Petersen of gathering signatures for two candidates of different political parties

Zurek alleged that Lauro and Petersen gathered signatures for both the re-election bid of Saviano, running for state representative, and the election of Democrat Terry Gallagher who is running for Cook County Circuit Court judgeship.

On Dec. 12, Zurek chose to challenge the signatures for Saviano’s re-election bid. On Monday, the ISBE overruled his challenge

Saviano has no competition in the March 20 primary, but will run against Addison resident Kathleen Willis in the General Election.
