District 212

Annual ‘Pops
Concert’ May 10

Leyden is hosting its annual District 212 “Pops Concert” at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, in the field house at West Leyden High School, 1000 N. Wolf Road, Northlake.

More than 300 students from the district’s bands, choirs and orchestra will be featured in a variety of musical selections ranging from Beethoven to Broadway to Big Band.

May 11 Parent Club
Candlight Bowl

The SVF Parent Club is hosting its second annual “Candlelight Bowl,” beginning with registration at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, followed by bowling at 7:30 p.m. at the Stardust Bowl at 37 E. Lorraine, in Addison.

A buffet dinner and auction will also take place that evening. Everyone is invited to attend.

Cost per couple is $60 dollars; for one person $35. All proceeds will go to help the school. Call the school office at (708) 771-5906.

‘Millionaires in the
Making’ program

Under the guidance of Edward Sanchez, who is a financial consultant, the eighth grade class at St. Vincent Ferrer hosted a financial instruction class for parents, faculty and the community on April 25. This presentation was part of “Smart Money Week” sponsored by the Federal Reserve in Chicago.

The students demonstrated the money management knowledge they acquired from Sanchez’s weekly finance class. After the presentation, the audience had the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from the students and Sanchez.

A special guest attended the evening. Channel 2 Consumer Reporter Dorothy Tucker spoke to the audience about the importance of saving money and investing in various ways.

St. Cyprian

Join in Walk-a-Thon
benefit May 19

The annual Walk-a-Thon fund-raiser for St. Cyprian School will take place beginning with registration at 8 a.m., 3-mile walk begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 19, and will begin and end at St. Cyprian School, 2561 Clinton St., in River Grove — rain or shine.

Honorary co-chairs, the Class of 1966, will lead this Olympics-themed walk and “Carry A Torch for St. Cyprian.” Prior to and following the walk, participants may enjoy a variety of complimentary refreshments including sub sandwiches and Italian sausage from The Original Nottoli & Son Italian Deli. Walkers can earn a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal by collecting the largest financial contributions toward the school’s $20,000 goal. Each school family is asked to collect at least $200 in contributions with all contributions due the day of the walk. If the goal is accomplished, Sister Kathleen will give the students a school day off.
