River Grove — It may be cold outside, but the temperature will heat up indoors at Triton College during a soldering workshop for youth.
Snowbotics is a workshop open to youth ages 8 to 14 that allows them to learn about and experience the engineering technology field firsthand. Students will create their own soldering electronics project in Triton’s fabrication laboratory with guidance from instructors and students of Triton’s Engineering Technology program as well as students from Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy’s Monty Pythons robotics team.
Antigone Sharris, chair of Triton’s Engineering Technology program, believes that by introducing youth to science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers in an engaging atmosphere, they are likely to develop a greater interest in their education as the means toward reaching their goals.
“This workshop is to inspire the students to want to learn more, which ultimately leads them to a variety of opportunities, both in school and beyond,” she said.
The workshop will be available from 12:30 4 p.m. both days in Triton’s Industrial Careers Building (T-Building). The cost is $30 per youth, per workshop date. Students can take their creations home.
