River Grove Baseball starts off season with a parade

River Grove baseball enthusiasts came out in force April 28 for the annual Little League opening day.
Ronald McDonald threw out the first pitch to start the season. However, due to the cold and rain, most opening day games and events were postponed.
“River Grove is a small suburb but we strive to give our kids their own baseball league,” said Edna Muniz, a committee member of River Grove Baseball.
The league has the support of the village including Mayor Marilynn May, but the league is run 100 percent by a volunteer committee, she said.
“We are striving to make River Grove just as competitive as our surrounding suburbs,” Muniz said.
The parade honors players who have joined the league as well as providing exposure in hopes of attracting more potential players.
“Our league costs are very competitive with the surrounding suburbs, but one advantage is the fact that there is no fundraising involved for our players and parents,” Muniz said.
